511ContraCostaTRANSIT VIDEO PROJECT

Making Public Transit Work for You

511 Contra Costa produced an instructional  transit video to help guide auto commuters unfamiliar with the use public transit as well as transit users needing to use multiple public transit operators.

A grant from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air, awarded to 511 Contra Costa in FY 99/00, along with funds from AC Transit, BART, RIDES for Bay Area Commuters, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission made the production and distribution of the 10 minute video possible.

The VHS video demonstrate:

  • reading bus schedules
  • using the bus
  • connecting to BART and other buses
  • bicycle use on public transit
  • carpooling combined with public transit

For community based programs, education facilities and large employment sites wanting to show the video to a large group of people, a free VHS video is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The VHS video in other languages is forthcoming as funds allow. The Contra Costa Employment and Human Services Department and  BART have contributed to the translation costs.

For individuals interested in viewing the instructional video contact your local library for a copy of the VHS video.
